‘The Blair Witch Project’ Producer Says Film, “Is FINALLY being released as we always intended”

Producer Mike Monello seemed very excited on his November, 11 post on social media.

“25 years later, our little movie, ‘The Blair Witch Project,’ is FINALLY being released as we always intended. Here are details for the curious,” he wrote.

He continues to reveal why this new release is so important.

“The Blair Witch Project was filmed on Hi8 video and 16mm b&w film and edited on a Media 100XR, a non-linear editing system in wide use then. Since theaters then did not have video projectors, we had to transfer our DigiBeta master to 35mm film via a process called ‘telecine, ‘ basically filming the video on a special screen in a controlled environment with a 35mm film camera. We HAD to do that, to play the film in theaters.”

If you don’t understand all that jargon it’s okay because if you haven’t already put in your pre-order, you’re out of luck — it’s sold out. (It’s sold out on their official site, however, we do see some available from Second Site Films still up on amazon here). But maybe you have a lucky friend who snagged a copy, willing to invite you over. Of course, you could always risk it on eBay.

Some still available on Amazon here!

Basically, it’s a new Blu-ray release of the 1999 classic found footage film with loads of extras, including deleted scenes and alternate endings.
