Year of The Indie: ‘Terrifier 3’ Projected To Top Box Office With $15 Million

Now that Joker 2 has become a certified flop, the little franchise that could, Terrifier, is projected to pick up the slack to become number one at the box office this weekend. It’s projected that the film will cash in at $15 million. In comparison, Joker 2 cost $200 million to make and hauled $37.6 million on its opening weekend with returns diminishing throughout the week.

Terrifier 3 cost $2 million to make and if it reaches its projected profit will make over six times its budget. That kind of profit will make some independent filmmakers very happy, and very rich.

Terrifier 3

This year will probably go down as one of the best in terms of hype for horror movies, it will also go down in history as the year where the hype actually delivered. From Longlegs to The Substance to The First Omen and Oddity, 2024 had a lot to offer fans despite a weak new year; we are looking at you Jason Blum.

Damien Leone’s Terrifier franchise was born from one of his short films. It’s villain, Art the Clown has entered the horror space as a genre icon, joining the ranks of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers. The difference is that Leone has kept away from major studios who have approached him already, probably with wads of cash in hand. But the director is keeping humble and doing his films independently.

“They wanted to reboot it for a wider audience,” Leone has said. “That’s not what I was interested in. They would say, ‘It’s gotta be rated R, it can’t be as gory as you made it.'”

Terrifier 3 is said to be his goriest yet. Confirmed reports of people fainting and vomiting only add to the curiosity of theatergoers. Terrifier 3 opens theatrically on October 11.
