’10 Cloverfield Lane’ Star Mary Elizabeth Winstead Joins ‘Hand That Rocks The Cradle’ Remake

Mary Elizabeth Winstead has one of those familiar faces you know you’ve seen before but can’t remember her name. She is probably best known for her role in 10 Cloverfield Lane, Final Destination 3, or The Thing (2011). She recently appeared on the small screen in Disney’s Star Wars drama Ahsoka.

Deadline has announced that she is currently in negotiations to join the cast of director Michelle Garza Cervera’s remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, the box-office winner of 1992. That year was a big one too, it gave us Basic Instinct, Home Alone 2, Lethal Weapon 3, and The Bodyguard.

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle

The movie follows a crazed nanny hellbent on destroying a family via a twisted revenge plot. The original starred Rebecca De Mornay as the villain and Annabella Sciorra as the victim. Maika Monroe has already been cast as the nanny, we assume Winstead will take the Sciorra role.

Curtis Hanson directed the original film. His credits include 8 Mile and L.A. Confidential.

For this remake, Cervera is behind the camera. She is a Mexico City-based director whose 2023 horror movie Huesera: The Bone Woman (streaming on Shudder) was considered one of the best of that year. This will be her first English-language film.
