Let’s Dance! ‘Umbrella Academy’ Gets “Footloose” in Season 3 Opener

Kenny Loggins is getting glow-up in 2022. At least his music is anyway. The now 74-year-old musician was the emperor of movie music four decades ago including the 1984 soundtrack-driven hit Footloose.

The title track in that movie plays at the end in a massive choreographed dance-a-thon. But Netflix decided the season three premiere of Umbrella Academy needed to revisit the iconic scene as its curtain-raiser, and fans can’t get enough.

The homage-heavy scene includes some of the original footwork from Footloose including the cowboy shuffle complete with exploding glitter and kickable dancefloor ballons.

Loggins’ music has recently been plucked from the archives and given new light. Top Gun: Maverick uses his song Danger Zone in its opening sequence; you may remember that bop had a prominent place in the 1986 original. Now, all we have to do is wait for a remake of Caddyshack to get his modern version of “I’m Alright.”

For now, we’ll have to keep enjoying that opening sequence in Umbrella Academy: Ooh-wee, Marie!
