Macon Blair’s upcoming Legendary Pictures reboot of Toxic Avenger is getting another tremendous cast member to continue the stack that already includes Peter Dinklage and Jacob Tremblay. Taylour Paige of Zola now joins as the female lead.
Everyone joining this project are entirely unexpected but incredibly talented. Paige is no slouch having just come off of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and White Boy Rick. She is a enormous presence in the films she graces. Her addition is very exciting.
The entire thing is insanely cool. For one, Macon Blair (Green Room, Blue Ruin) is on as director. That’s already very cool but you add in the unexpected choices of Peter Dinklage and Jacob Tremblay into lead roles and the insanity begins to grow. The Toxic Avenger was a gory, micro-budget film over at Troma. The film laid the ground work for Lloyd Kaufman’s amazing indie film company. The original film saw a bullied nerd fall into a vat of chemicals to become the vengeance seeking, mop-yielding Toxic Avenger. The whole thing is being treated with very serious hand with Legendary Pictures handling the entire thing.
Both Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz are on as executive producers.
Head over to Troma.com to catch up on Toxic Avenger and all of its sequels. Troma is a true voice in independent cinema and was a cornerstone in my cinema diet growing up. If you haven’t been privy to Troma yet, give their stuff a watch. You will fall in love. A very special, goopy, low-budget kind of love.
