Benedict Cumberbatch is set to star in a new adaptation of The 39 Steps which Anonymous Content is shopping to networks as a limited series.
Based on the novel by John Buchan, the story centers on Richard Hannay, who finds himself as the unwitting pawn in vast conspiracy to reset the global world order. Those 39 steps, once completed, will change everything, and Hannay sets out to destroy the plan.
The novel has been adapted numerous times for the stage, screen, and even radio productions, but its first remains perhaps the most famous. Alfred Hitchcock was 36 years old when he brought the novel to the big screen in 1935 with Richard Donat and Madeleine Carroll starring.
Cumberbatch will star as Hannay in the new adaptation as well as serving as an Executive Producer on the limited series with his producing partner Adam Ackland under their SunnyMarch banner. Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) will write the series with Edward Berger (Jack) directing.
Anonymous Content and Chapter One Pictures are producing and setting their sites on finding a home for the series currently.
