‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Bumped Up To March on HBO Max And In Theaters

The ever-in-flux release dates for blockbusters just got another boost as Godzilla vs. Kong is headed to theaters and HBO Max two months early. The epic Kaiju battle was scheduled to take place in May but Deadline has reported Warner Bros. is bumping that up to March 26, 2021.

The battleground isn’t just for the giants either. Warner Bros. and Legendary Films, which owns most of the film, butted heads when Warner Bros. made the decision to stream its 2021 new release catalog on HBO Max concurrently with a theatrical release. Legendary wasn’t pleased and even threatened a lawsuit. Thankfully things got hashed out without lawyering up and Godzilla vs. Kong will swath their destruction across home screens and silver screens in early spring.  Legendary is still negotiating with its other property Dune.

Here’s a synopsis of Godzilla vs. King Kong:

Legends collide as Godzilla and Kong, the two most powerful forces of nature, clash in a spectacular battle for the ages. As a squadron embarks on a perilous mission into fantastic uncharted terrain, unearthing clues to the Titans’ very origins and mankind’s survival, a conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.

Whatever is going on in Hollywood in the aftermath of a COVID-ruined world, we hope surprises like this keep coming. Although this epic showdown between Godzilla vs. Kong should be seen on a large screen, we’ll take what we can get because some people may have no other choice.
