The new psychological horror movie from director Jordan Graham called Sator will release digitally on February 9, 2021. Mixing in real footage, Sator feels almost documentarian in style which is exactly what Graham was going for.

“Sator is quite personal to me,” he says. “It delves into my family’s dark history with mental illness surrounding a supernatural entity, and uses home video footage to create an interwoven piece between documentary and fiction.”

The director’s family has claimed they were influenced vocally by a malevolent beast named Sator. His grandmother’s own haunting accounts in which the monster made contact are a big part of this film’s narrative. Although she suffered from dementia later in life, the director says his grandmother’s memory of the demon remained intact.

Sator blends in a fictionalized premise along with these personal stories to create a haunting film that moved festival audiences in its initial run.

The film is written, directed, produced, edited, scored, and lensed by Graham, who took seven years to complete the feature, and stars newcomers Michael Daniel, Aurora Lowe, Gabriel Nicholson, and Rachel Johnson alongside Graham’s late grandmother, June Peterson.

Sator opens digitally in North America on February 9, 2021.
