‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Remake Heads to Amazon as Series

Amazon Prime has greenlit a series based on 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer. The same source material as the book by the same name from 1973. The story follows a group of kids that ‘eff up really bad on graduation night when they accidentally kill someone while out having a blast. It isn’t long before they find out that the person in question might not be as dead as they thought.

The film made big business in 97. It’s cast of Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillipe was a big deal in the post Scream teen slasher trend.

Amazon Prime’s greenlight will once again adapt the story with a young adult approach. Sara Goodman (Preacher) is writing and executive producing the series with Amazon and Sony.

“We are thrilled to have I Know What You Did Last Summer with our incredible partners at Amazon Studios, Neal Moritz and Original Film’s development consistently fires on all cylinders and that is proven once again with Sara Goodman’s contemporary and pulsating character weaving suspense thriller.” Sony Pictures TV Studios co president, Jason Clodfelter told Hollywood Reporter.

History repeats itself. I have a feeling that Scream 5 might lead to a turn we found ourselves in during the 90s. Teen slashers abound.
