The original scream queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis, is praising the work of Mark Tavares and his “Haddonfield Manor Stretching Portraits” being displayed at the SugarMynt Gallery in historic Pasadena California. The paintings are a mash-up of the classic Disney Haunted Mansion attraction and John Carpenter’s original horror masterwork.

Consisting of four individual paintings, Tavares’ inspiration comes from the famous dark ride’s stretching elevator pre-show at Disneyland. The attraction opened in 1969 and as guests fill an “elevator” they notice seemingly normal portrait sittings of the estate’s original owners. However, as the room starts to “stretch” viewers get a whimsical glimpse of how they met their demise.
Travares has taken that idea and applied it to Halloween with Curtis and the Shape replacing the original subjects.
Curtis, who plays Laurie Strode in the series, took to Instagram and tagged Travares with approval.

Art and horror enthusiasts can get the entire set of four prints for $170 or individual ones for $45 each in-person or on the gallery’s website.
Besides being a great place to pick up some genre art pieces, SugarMynt Gallery has a very important geographical location especially this time of year because it sits directly behind the original Halloween (aka Myer’s house) located in Pasadena, California.
The business’ location may be a tourist attraction but some of the surrounding areas, within walking distance, were used in the John Carpenter original. It’s like walking into a real-life Haddonfield.
If you said that wasn’t the original location of the Myers House you’d be right. It was moved from its original location at 709 Meridian Ave., South Pasadena to where it sits now: 1000 Mission St., South Pasadena.
