Mike Flanagan’s Director’s Cut of ‘Doctor Sleep’ is Now Streaming

Mike Flanagan’s masterful Doctor Sleep is now available to stream. The original theatrical cut is in there as well, but fans of the film have been dying to see the director’s cut since it’s announcement since late last year.

The sequel to The Shining was met with a lot of critical praise and managed to make my top 3 films of 2019. Unfortunately, not a lot of people showed up for this one in theaters despite it being a Stephen King story and it being a direct sequel to The Shining.

The synopsis for Doctor Sleep goes like this:

“Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before — at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.”

Do yourself a favor. If you haven’t seen it yet seriously, give it a watch. It features amazing performances, big scares and introduces one of the best villains in recent memory via Rose the Hat.

Doctor Sleep is now available for streaming with a blu-ray coming out Feb. 4.
